Major Russian Strikes Eliminate Power In Kyiv

Energy infrastructure under attack in Ukraine
Ukraine's energy systems have faced increased attacks in recent weeks

During the night, Russian aerial assaults have caused blackouts in large parts of Ukraine's capital, the Ukrainian capital.

Nine people were injured while residents in the city's east were experienced blackouts and encountered disruption to drinking water, according to local authorities.

At the same time, a minor was fatally injured in a separate Russian drone strike in the Zaporizhzhia region in the southeastern part, based on information from local officials.

Moscow has increased strikes on energy facilities over the last fortnight, while officials has requested "substantial measures" from international partners to apply pressure on Russia.

"What's needed is not window dressing but decisive action - from the America, Europe and the Group of Seven - in providing defensive weapons and applying restrictions," he wrote in a social media post.

He said that 450 drones and over thirty missiles struck Ukraine's energy infrastructure, labeling such attacks as "cynical and calculated" and against "everything that sustains normal life" as temperatures become colder.

The energy minister said Russia was "launching a major assault" and technical staff were laboring to fix the damage.

A barrage of missiles hit electrical systems and apartment buildings in Kyiv.

Five out of the nine people injured in the assaults on the city have been transported for medical care, according to local officials.

Local officials said the metropolitan region came under intense attacks throughout the evening. A minor lost their life and three other people were injured.

The assaults follow evenings of aerial attacks in the territory, parts of which are currently controlled by Moscow's military.

All of Ukraine is in a state of readiness for sophisticated projectile assaults, which are tougher to detect.

Government officials told journalists that Moscow was deliberately attempting to damage the national power system, with strikes already impacting energy systems.

Officials stated technical personnel and authorities were bracing for additional strikes.
